When you have too much to do – and you feel overwhelmed the best thing to do is to stop. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, so let me explain.
When you feel frantic and overwhelmed it’s really difficult to do anything efficiently. The energy you bring to what you’re doing is chaotic. There’s more likelihood that things will go wrong, adding to your frustration.
Instead, stop, take a breath and take the time to calm your mind and body down – I usually do this by going for a walk outside or by sitting down with a cup of tea. Once you feel calm, then look at your list of things you want to do and ask yourself what is the most important thing on that list – the 1 thing you really want to accomplish first.
Allow yourself to do that task. When it is completed you can repeat the same process, identifying the next most important thing on the list, and so on.
You will find yourself moving through your list effectively, efficiently and with ease. When you bring calm energy to your tasks, instead of overwhelmed energy everything flows much more smoothly.
The first time you do this you may find yourself wanting to panic as you step back and take the time to calm yourself down. But I’m guessing that once you find how effective this method is, how much you accomplish and how much better you feel – you’ll want to keep doing it.
Try this affirmation to help you stay calm:
“There is plenty of time to accomplish everything I want to do. Time expands for me, I always have plenty of time.”
