You are not responsible… for someone else's happiness. You are only responsible for your own.
As a former people-pleaser I know only too well that trying to keep everyone else happy is impossible and exhausting.
You can support other people. You can encourage them and be there for them when they need help, however when you start feeling responsible for fixing their problems or making them happy, you actually stop being helpful.
This should be a huge relief, because taking responsibility for yourself is a big enough job and the only one you are qualified for.
This message is particularly important for those of us who are in helping/healing professions. You learn very quickly that the best way to help someone is to give them the tools to be responsible for themselves and then to let them do it.
If you’re feeling responsible for someone else’s happiness, try this affirmation:
“I release the need to feel responsible for others. I take full responsibility for myself and my own happiness.”
