When you undervalue yourself… Like many people, I undervalued myself for most of my life. It’s something I’ve worked on a lot and have been shocked to find not only how deeply this went, but also how it showed up for me every day in my life.

I think it’s something that affects a great many people. Even some of the people who appear to be the most confident, assertive, and maybe even aggressive, often act this way to cover up their real feelings of insecurity and low self-worth.

There are many ways that this can show up – here are few:
  • Frequently doubting yourself
  • Other people have the ability to upset you or diminish you in some way
  • Experiencing feelings of guilt or shame and generally not good enough
  • Holding yourself back because you’re afraid you’ll fail
  • Finding yourself in a career you don’t enjoy
  • Struggling financially
  • Feeling anxious, shy or intimidated’
  • Looking for people or situations to blame
  • Feeling that life is unfair
  • Over-achieving
  • Taking on other people’s dramas or pain
  • Needing people to like you
  • Perfectionism

As you can see, there’s quite a list – and I could add more!

Comparing yourself to others is, perhaps one of the most common signs of under-valuing, and yet it’s probably something we all do from time to time.

If you are highly sensitive then this is most certainly something that you’ll want to address.

Undervaluing yourself and what you do causes others to undervalue you too. When you begin to really value yourself you will notice a shift in your relationships and experiences, and very importantly in how you feel. As with everything, the first step to change is awareness, the second is a willingness to change.

Action Step: Pay attention throughout the day, and the week, to any signs and signals of undervaluing – really any time you don’t feel good about yourself, or when you feel a need to prove yourself. Begin to build an awareness of how this shows up for you. Remember, awareness is the first step towards change.

Let this Unstoppable Affirmation support you on your journey:

I release the need or desire to undervalue myself in any way and I forgive myself for all the times I have felt undervalued in the past.

Be Unstoppable!

Linda

P.S.

Linda, so well written and 'spot on' for us! Comparing ourselves to others is a lethal way to diminish self confidence and self worth. I've done it more times than I'd like to admit. But I'm finding myself doing it less now. We are all so unique and wonderful in our own ways and that's something to celebrate, not compare! Thank you for all your thought provoking and encouraging Unstoppable Energy Tips. I love reading & implementing them!
