The Most Important Thing About Happiness

I frequently hear from people about the challenges they are experiencing that affect their ability to live a fulfilling and happy life. They share things like this:

  • "I feel like I need to fight for myself all the time and after "the battle" I feel extremely exhausted."

  • "I feel under-valued, overwhelmed, and taken advantage of. I need ways to cope with hard days at work."

  • "I want to not allow other people's suffering to affect me for so long, so I can shake it off and move on."

  • "I want to learn to cope better and not cry when overwhelmed, and to try to become more self-aware."

I think all of these situations have one thing in common that, if addressed, would improve circumstances for each of these people immeasurably. This video explains how.

Hi Linda,
I don’t know if I gained this advice from you in some of our original sessions, or I simply learned it along the way, but it is a basic that I use when I am “stuck” to move the energy and help me reset my perspective.

I also use it with friends or coworkers when they are stressed or overwhelmed. I ask: “is there one thing you feel like you could do?” I usually add, it can be non-related to the current issue, something as simple as cleaning out a drawer, organizing a refrigerator shelf, taking a walk. The intent is is jiggle your energy and your thought process, so fresh ideas and perspective come into your mind.

It is always helpful, along with drink water, move your body, write down your emotions and shred or safely burn them, just get them out and process them so you can move forward.

Thank you for sharing Tracie. It's so simple because there is always something we can do in the moment, no matter how small. It's hard to think that way when you are blindsided by something or you feel overwhelmed.

I love that you are using this not only for yourself but helping others too.
