Put your energy in the right place – when you’re afraid of something or have anxiety about it it’s important that you focus on what you DO want more than on what you don’t.
For example, because of the upcoming election I’m hearing from many people that they’re afraid of a certain outcome. Every time they see or hear the political speeches they feel anxiety about what’s going to happen. What I often hear is something like “it will be terrible for the country if this happens.”
The problem is the more you think those thoughts, the more energy you are giving to what you DON’T want. When you give something energy you are feeding it and giving it strength. So you are actually helping that which you don’t want to grow stronger and more powerful.
The answer is to put more energy into what you DO want than what you don’t. A great example of this was when Mother Theresa was asked if she would participate in a march ‘against war,’ and she said she wouldn’t. But she said if you have a march ‘for peace,’ then I will come.
When you fight against something you’re giving it energy, therefore you are helping to make it stronger. Put your energy into what you do want instead and then that will grow stronger.
Don’t waste your energy insulting or complaining about the opposition. Put your energy into supporting the person you want in the best and most positive way possible. This doesn’t just apply to politics, it applies to everything. Know where you are putting more of your energy, because that is what you are feeding and making stronger.
