Change something – I’m sure you’re familiar with the phrase: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.” Yet it’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that if things are not changing I simply have to work harder or do more of what I’m already doing.
But the truth is, If you want different results than the ones you’re getting, you have to try different approaches. The things you did yesterday have brought you to the life you have today. If that’s not what you want, then you have to do something different today to create a different life tomorrow. There’s no other way to get there.
To me, doing something differently starts with your thinking. Your thinking provides the energy behind what you’re doing. If you are trying to force results, the chances are you’ll be disappointed. Try a shift in your thinking about how you’re going to accomplish what you want. Be open to new approaches.
For example – perhaps you’ve been forcing yourself to exercise because you hate your body and how you look. A different approach might be to think about what would be good for your body and what would help you feel really good. This might inspire you to exercise because it’s good for you (rather than because you hate how you look) or it might inspire you to try something new and enjoyable, such as a sport, a new exercise class or dancing.
Think about what you can change, and what you can do differently to give you different results. Share your ideas.
