Lower your stress tolerance – in his book ‘Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff,’ author Richard Carlson, Ph.D., says “Our current level of stress will be exactly that of our tolerance to stress.”
He says that the people who say, “I can handle lots of stress” will always be under a great deal of stress. If you teach people to raise their tolerance to stress, they will attract more of it.
He recommends noticing your stress early, before it gets out of hand. When you feel that things are beginning to get out of control, then it’s time to back off and re-center yourself. It’s time to slow down, rather than speed up.
If you notice the stress before it gets out of hand then it’s more manageable and easier to control, but once it gathers momentum it’s difficult (or impossible) to stop.
How can you lower your tolerance to stress starting now?
