Identify the source – Whenever you feel upset or stressed what you think is the cause of your problem isn’t usually the problem.
Let’s say that you are feeling stressed because there just aren’t enough hours in the day. You may feel that what you really need is to learn better time management skills.
But if you were to really examine your situation and the things that you’re doing you might find that you are taking on too much in an attempt to keep everyone else happy, or perhaps you would find that many of the things that you’re doing are not things you enjoy or want to be doing, and so you procrastinate and everything takes longer than it should.
Perhaps there’s something else that you’d much rather be doing, but you push that aside and focus instead on what you think you ‘should’ be doing.
None of these have anything to do with time management and unless you identify and deal with the real issue, you will continue to feel stressed and waste energy on the wrong things. Identify the real source and you’ll be able to put your energy into what works.
