Give without attachment – when you give a gift, how attached are you to what the person does with it or whether or not they like it?
Of course you always hope that the person will like your gift, but what if they don’t? Would you make them feel guilty about it or expect them to pretend they like it and keep it anyway?
Think about gift giving from the perspective of energy. You buy the gift, you give it, and once it’s given it is not up to you what the person does with it. Give with love and then let it go. Having an opinion about what happens to it after that means you are holding on energetically – and is that really where you want to put your energy?
If someone gives you a gift that you don’t like you don’t want to feel guilty for not liking it and you don’t want to feel you have to keep it. When you practice giving without attachment you free yourself from that energy and you allow gift giving to be an act of pleasure.
